Contemporary Artist Ryan Thompson is based in Leeds. Drawing inspiration largely from a mix of popular and fairytale culture, his work transverses several mediums including film and performance. The focus of his practice is based around fairytale culture – an umbrella term including traditional fairytales, local and global folklore and fables, ancient legends and mythical creatures. Appropriating these into his artistic universe combined with his own low-fi aesthetic helps to develop and communicate understandings of their use in forms of escapism and how their narratives and illusions work and affect us.
